weddingcake
This is an experiment project I doing. My girl friend's wedding is approaching and she requested me to buy her bath towels as wedding gift. I shopped around, didn't find a nice towel. What normally I get in Kl is emboideries word of " Happy Marriage" in a clear box and it cost a bomb!.So I decided to get my hand dirty and I went sourcing for the right kind of towel I want, artificial flowers and ribbons.. and Voila!..

BIG DAY OUT

This week going to be a milestone in my professional year. After few weeks of hard works and madness rush. My designer tee label with a fellow friend will gonna launch and be selling in boutiques in Klang Valley. We are very excited about this and are promoting by word of mouth to our friends in advertising scene. Am glad that I got the supports from friends and my love one. To create my designer wear is one the things to do before I die. You can imagine how I want to live my life to the fullest.
Our brand name is call BIG DAY OUT.A label of the ingeniously imaginative mind celebrating its innovative and unique style. One proud to have to wear and parade down the street.
For our inaugural collection we wanted to do something for the coming Chinese New Year. To celebrate life and yet respect the tradition and culture. Our design are very quirky, light hearted with vivid imagery. We contemporized the classic characters of rat in celebrating the coming "Rat year" in chinese calendar. Succesfully blend in the new concept of modernity and classic in seamless worlds.
Hopefully, our label will do well. Meanwhile check us out and the story behind at www.abigdayout.blogspot.com
Be cool and stay fabulous!
vintage chair
I am in the middle of moving house. When I start packing last couple of days I stumbble on a box of junks I brought back from New Zealand. It still have the sort of crispy air smell, reminding me the pureness air in Aeotera,Maori word for New Zealand.
I love vintage pieces especially furniture. I am sure lots of designista out there have full aware of the Ghost Chair by Philippe Starc. It is really a ingenious design of taking the idea of Louis V era' chair.
Here I managed to pull out a photo I capture few years back in Peggy's house ( my professor). This is a lovely piece and it was in my room when I home stayed with her.I like the embroidery on the seating pad. The white rattan color goes go well with the flowers motifs. Notice how the colors matches the wallpaper in the room. oh.. I missed the house so much.As much as the chair.

Hiroshiki

Today, I received an email from a designer friend about Furoshiki (風呂敷, furoshiki).
This is a traditional Japanese wrapping cloth. It is frequently used to carry clothes, gifts and etc.
It was dated back in Nara period (710-794AD), the name Furoshiki is actually the combination words of "furo" and "bath" meaning "bath spread", derives from the Edo period practice of using them to bundle clothes while at the sentō (public baths). During the period, furoshiki is widly popular in working class because of its functionality.Eventually, the furoshiki's usage extended to serve as a means for merchants to transport their wares or to protect and decorate a gift.
Modern furoshiki can be made of a variety of cloths, including silk, cotton, rayon, and nylon. Its decorated with traditional designs or by shibori, chirimen. Common sizes is ranging from 45cm (17.7 inch) and 68-72cm (26.7-28.3 inch).
Their numbers declined in the post-war period, in large part due to the proliferation of the plastic shopping bag. Nowadays , you can seend it revamped interest act as an environmental protection packaging. TIll now, is commonly used to wrap bento(lunch boxes) and double as a table mat.
Ok, done with the introduction and history. I think to share this find witih fellow designer and crafters so we can incorporate this wrapping technique in some of our design... Happy exploring!!

"The more stuff you make, the more chance there is of something turning out to be good. And then people will watch it. So in 2007 I will be making more stuff, writing more stuff, posting more stuff. Some of it will be rubbish and some of it might work. And seeing as I don't know which bits will work until I've done them, I guess I better get cracking."
